Shutters

Shutters are window coverings that consist of horizontal slats or panels that can be opened or closed to control the amount of light, air, and privacy in a room. They can be installed on the interior or exterior of the windows, depending on your preference and needs. Shutters can also enhance the appearance and value of your home, as they come in various styles, colors, and materials. To measure the shutters, you need to first decide whether you want them to be mounted inside or outside the window frame. Inside mount shutters fit within the window opening and provide a clean look, while outside mount shutters are attached to the wall or trim around the window and cover the entire window opening. You also need to consider the type and size of the shutter frame, hinges, and hardware that you will use. The basic steps for measuring the shutters are: • Use a steel tape measure and measure to the nearest 1/8 inch. • Measure the width and height of each window in three different places: top, middle, and bottom for width; left, right, and center for height. • Use the smallest width and height measurements for inside mount shutters, and the largest width and height measurements for outside mount shutters. • Subtract 1/4 inch from both the width and height measurements for inside mount shutters to ensure a proper fit. • Add at least 2 inches to both the width and height measurements for outside mount shutters to ensure adequate coverage. • Record your measurements as width by height in inches.
